The use of infinitives and gerunds





INFINITIVE (TO + BASE FORM)
GERUND (-ING)
  1. After certain Verbs like need, plan, decide, allow, learn, offer, plan, hope, promise)

Ex. My mum promised to come.
  1. after adjectives

Ex. It was great to see you.

1. After certain Verbs ( like, love, hate, avoid, imagine, regret, keep, finish, mind)

I always avoid staying for too long at home.
2. As a subject

Ex. Eating apples is healthy.
Going to the cinema is fun.

3. After prepositions

Instead of sleeping you should be working.

4. After certain expressions like feel like, can't stand, it's no use and look forward to.

I am looking forward to seeing you.
I can't stand being alone.
